How to set up content of your membership plans

You can choose to include any type of content to your memberships: a page, a post, a product or any other media uploaded on to the site. For each type of content in your site you can set the membership plan it is associated to, regardless of general configuration settings of the plan.
To do that, log in as admin to your site and open the page (or post or product) and select the membership plan you want to associate from the dedicated box that you can find on the right side.

Select membership plan on content

The same content can be added to more than one membership plan. Moreover, you can choose to make this content available to users only after a specific number of days since purchase. To do that, check the option “Delay” that you can find below the select field for your membership.

Set a delay time for publishing content

As already said, also media files can be included in the membership.

Select a membership plan on media

In order to set a delay time on media, click on “Edit more details”.

Manage access to membership contents

You can manage access to membership contents from the option panel that you can find in YIT Plugins > Memberships.

Plugin settings panel

The option “Hide Contents” allows you to regulate access to contents for users that are not registered to the membership. You can choose one of the following options:

  • Hide all: content (posts, pages and products) are shown nowhere in the site but to members; if non-members try to access the content with a direct link, they will be redirected to your site 404 page.
  • Show and redirect users: posts are available in the blog and products are available in shop page, but when non-members try to access details, they will be redirected to a URL that you have previously specified.
  • Show alternative content: access to pages, posts and products is granted to anyone, but non-members will see an alternative content instead of the original one. Non-members cannot purchase products.

Alternative content can be added using the specific text area in the WordPress page of the product/page/post.

The option “Products in membership” allows you to manage products associated to the membership plan.

  • Show products only members: products follow exactly the same behaviour decided for posts, pages and media in “Hide contents”.
  • Show products to all and allow downloads for members: regardless of the behaviour chosen for shop contents, products can be accessed and purchased by everyone and downloadable products can be downloaded by all members.

If you choose to allow file downloading to all members, they will be able to download concerned products directly from product detail page.
You can change the position for the “download” button directly from settings panel.

Set restrictions to download number

The plugin allows you to add restrictions to the downloadable items in your membership plan. In fact, you can assign a specific number of credits to the membership plan, which will be accordingly decreased of the credits assigned to each product that users download.
Let’s see together details concerning each of the plugin options to better understand how to configure it correctly.

Content list in My Account page

Follow these steps to configure the download credit system related to the selected membership plan:

  1. In option “Download number for every term”, set the number of credits that users receive once they purchase the membership. Specify “zero” value if no restrictions have to be applied to allowed downloads.
  2. In options “Define Download term” and “Download term unit” you can set the term until which credits will be at user’s disposal. You can specify this time limit in days, weeks, months or years.
After the first term, the number of credits available will be restored, unless you have enabled option “Can be accumulated”, which allows adding new credits to the remaining ones.

By default, each time a product is downloaded, one credit is decreased from credit total, unless you have changed the number of credits associated to that product; in the latter case, credits associated to that product are decreased accordingly.

Credits - Single product

Each user will be able to see in his/her own “My account” page the number of credits required to download or access that specific item.

Membership status

There are 7 available statuses for the membership:

  • active: the status of a new membership, which corresponds to the completed order.
  • suspended: user membership is not active.
  • paused: the user has paused his/her membership (they can pause it in membership detail page)
  • resumed: this status follows always “paused” status and it is set manually by the admin (in membership detail page). When this status is set, the plugin saves the number of day hte membership has been paused and will automatically postpone the membership expiry date. For the same reason, also visibility of the elements for which a delay had been set will be postponed.
  • expiring: status of the membership when it is going to expire (since 10 days before expiry) When this status is set, the user receives an automatic email informing about him/her expiring membership.
  • expired: expired membership
  • cancelled: user’s membership has been cancelled by the admin
